A unique but standard reference for over 65 years

What an incredible piece of labor to assemble all this in the 1940s! While there are now websites and apps that cover even more ground, this book is still easy to go to when you've got this melody in your head that you can't make go away. My original copy was purchased over 50 years ago, and now I've purchased another one to go in my second house.

Wonderful resource for musicians at all levels

My original copy was lost, so I was very happy to be able to acquire this one. The updates only make it better. If you can hum what you're looking for, you can find it! Read the author's description in the middle of the book for tips on best usage. Don't know why they didn't put it at the front.

A wonderful idea, woefully out of date.

The concept is terrific - to have at your disposal a way of identifying those famous classical music melodies that you know so well, but can't quite place.... And if you can sing it, you can identify it from the letter-sequences of notes provided. Great.

But there's nothing much in this book later than mid 1950s - which is a real pity. Classical music did not stop then, and I hope this great book will get the up-dating it deserves, one day soon.

Plenty of Room for Improvement

I am using this book for a correspondence audit course. I gave it two stars because this book deserves a negative review.

As stated by the other reviewer, this book rambles a lot. It reminds me of people in school and at work that think something must be of a certain length in order to be of good quality. Cutting out the BS and getting to the point would be more helpful.

Also, aside from rambling, the questions at the end of the unit are often poorly worded and confusing.

This book is poorly written. Buy it and see for yourself. I have learned a lot from it, but at considerably more effort than should be required. The users of this book clearly suffer from either a lack of competition or some sort of peer loyalty. I would not recommend this book. Unfortunately, I don't write the syllabus.

My biggest complaint with this textbook is that it lacks consistency in terms of flow; essentially, there are parts of this book that provide useful information and there are parts that will go on and on about nothing. Unfortunately the latter makes up a larger part of the textbook. There simply has to be a better book on auditing in todays environment.

Excellent & Much Needed

There are plenty of Self-Esteem books out there, but this one really handles the specifics of self-esteem issues. It is clearly written- even for a layperson. I am not in the field of psychology, but I found the book helpful in understanding how to deal with individuals in my own field. By understanding how and why certain individuals are affected by their own self esteem, I believe I can be more compassionate in my dealings with others in the workplace. Furthermore, I learned a few important things about myself and how I can approach success and failures in my own life. Highly recommended.

About the Author

Kim Huggens has been studying Tarot since the age of 9, and is the co-author of Sol Invictus: The God Tarot (Schiffer Publications, 2007) and in-progress companion deck Pistis Sophia: The Goddess Tarot. She lives in Cardiff, UK, where she works as a veterinary receptionist part-time to fund her university studies in Ancient History. She moved to Cardiff in 2002 for her undergraduate degree in Philosophy, and also graduated with an MA in Religion in Late Antiquity from Cardiff University in 2007. Kim has given numerous talks and workshops on the subject of Tarot, divination, Paganism and mythology in the UK, and regularly runs Tarot courses. She is a practicing Vodouisante and Thelemite, and a member of the OTO. She lives with her partner and cat, and in her spare time plays Call of Cthulhu, Dungeons and Dragons, writes short fiction, goes for walks in graveyards and wishes she could translate Sumerian.

A refreshing change from other tarot books I've tried! I really feel myself building a relationship with each card. Tarot 101 is structured to be a self-study course with exercises for each chapter. These exercises teach you to use your own personal frame of reference to interpret cards and tell stories. The exercises are creative, introspective and fun, and I find myself looking forward to working through each chapter. It's not just about memorizing what each card symbolizes (although Huggens provides the traditional card meanings); I also feel like I'm on a spiritual/creative journey. For those that want to know more than the basics

Tarot 101 is not your everyday nor normal book on the Tarot. This full home study program leads one into a truly personal approach to the Tarot. Students are able to really make firm understanding on how they feel and relate to all of the Tarot cards. I'm slowly going throught this book and I've found the information extremely helpful in terms of getting me out-side of my box in terms of simple run-of-the-mill tarot card interpretation. Thanks.
