She covers social and cultural differences among the breastfeeding families, pressures to wean, natural weaning and various other reasons to wean. From the Publisher
"Other LLL books help mothers get started and continue the breastfeeding relationship through various circumstances," said LLLI Director of Publications Judy Torgus. "Weaning, however, answers their questions about how that relationship will end. We are thrilled to be able to offer an entire book on the topic for all nursing families."

"Knowing and understanding the weaning process is as significant to a mother as her initial decision to breastfeed her child," said Torgus. "Therefore, LLLI has come full circle after more than 40 years in the business with its new book."

From the Author
"Weaning can be a bittersweet thing," said Bengson. "It's the closing of a certain part of a relationship, but it doesn't necessarily have to be negative."

"Breastfeeding is actually a way to build independence within the child because the child outgrows the need. Now doctors recognize the benefits of breastfeeding for a year, but research shows there's nothing harmful in longer nursing and that there's actually benefits to it."

"The topic of weaning comes up at La Leche League meetings, and I always thought it would be nice to have a book available to give mothers some insight," said Bengson, who has learned a multitude of gentle and supportive ways to assist mothers through weaning.

About the Author
First time author Diane Bengson makes her home in Bellbrook with her husband John and their children Shaun, Joel and Emma. Bengson, who has counseled hundreds of mothers as a La Leche League Leader, has had articles published in Mothering Magazine, New Beginnings, Welcome Home and National Catholic Reporter.

I would like to further my education at night
By Eileen Rosado
This book should be called how weaning do not happen. I get that we want to promote nursing as long as possible, however sometimes a mother may choose to wean sooner. As I mother myself with a 15 month old who is still nursing at this time, I was hoping this book would provide some advice and techniques to start the weaning process. I would like to further my education at night, I do have travel responsibilities at work that I have delayed as much as possible. Many of the stories in this book start with "I started to wean...." and end with "we found another way to allow our child to continue to nurse". Back in the late 90's when this book was probably first written (not published but written), there may have not been many career moms. Most of the women in this book are stay at home moms. If I had the luxury to stay at home, I would nurse my baby for as long as I could too.

Very Comforting Guide for Breastfeeding Moms
By Kelly
This book is great! Its easy to read and very interesting [and a pretty quick read]. As a mother who has made the choice to continue to breastfeed past the first 12 months of my daughter's life, it was really reassuring to find a book like this. It gave me very practical information on how to decide when to wean and great ideas on how to achieve weaning when the time comes. I also really enjoyed reading the stories of many other mothers and babies and how they achieved weaning.

Not for mom's who know they want to wean...
By M. Stoops
I bought this book looking for ideas on how to wean my son from breastfeeding. My son is 19 months. He loves breastfeeding, but I am ready to wean. I was hoping this book would provide examples and strategies on how to wean. It did not. This book is for the mom who wants to continue to breastfeed until her child weans naturally. It gives wonderful examples of families that have gone this route. But if you buy this book for the same reason I did, you will be very disappointed and frustrated as you get further into the book. The book seems to be written to encourage moms to breastfeed until their child weans naturally. It gives examples of other moms that have done it and explains why you should too. Not the book I thought it would be.
