Interesting Book

I bought this book because I was curious about how closely it resembled the movie "Doc Hollywood". I knew the movie was based on this book and I'd read differing opinions on how related they were. It is somewhat different but the main points of it are the same. If you had read the book before ever seeing the movie, the book would probably seem like a better story to you then. The author has based his story on personal experiences but changed some of the details to provide entertainment. I found the book entertaining and interesting but at the same time felt it was a somewhat different story. That said, keep in mind it isn't supposed to be exactly like the movie.

You've seen the movie, now read the book

Though the book is not well known, the movie is. This book is the basis of the movie 'Doc Hollywood' starring Michael J. Fox. This is a novel of big city yankee doctor meets small town southern society and hilarity ensues. Shulman's humor is dry at times, but very warm. His best characters tend to be the small ones such as the mechanic and the mayor's daughter, but the entire book is just full of charm and humor. Highly recommended.

This was the funny story on which the movie Doc Hollywood was based. Nice mix of medicine and quirky small town culture.
