Sweet, first love

I received a copy of The Willful from the publisher for an honest review a few weeks before it was released, and I fell in love with Esther and Pelo.
In the entire Woodlands series, Esther was portrayed as a very weak character that didn't really care about anyone expect her current husband. But in the Willful, Ms. Taylor goes into her background.
The first lines of the book... "I'm the moon, and he is the sun. I'm cool, quiet, and uniformly gray. He is a blast, a flare of fire. I circle around the earth, trying to find him. I never will. We're not supposed to exist in the same time.
I don't know how I came to love him but now that I do, it feels like I'm too late..."

Those first sentences of story just set the whole tone of the book. The Woodlands series was just amazing from the first book, but this really completed it.
I wish Lauren Nicolle Taylor was continuing on with the Woodlands series, but she is currently working on other projects. This is a novella that will accompany the whole story and complete it.

Loved It!! Can't wait to see what comes next from Lauren Nicolle Taylor

Lauren honestly speaks out about the things a new mother goes through but never feels able to share. She also gives insight in Pelo and Esther's marriage. I feel like this story was so raw and real, it will touch people in ways they aren't expecting. I wasn't sure I wanted to know more about her (I was pretty angry with Esther)I'm glad I did. The Willful has given me insight into the life of a few women near and dear to me. It helps me understand them and the choices they've made a little better.
I want to say that this novella answered the questions I've been asking since The Woodlands. It did. But now I have more questions. Will we get Pelo's point of view? What did he see and know that Esther didn't?
Again, I want to end my review with WOW! Lauren Nicolle Taylor has an amazing talent with words. She has a way of taking the things you keep to yourself and ripping them from you like a best friend that wants to share your load.

Beautiful novella is a great addition to this series!

This novella was such a beautiful addition to The Woodlands series. I didn't know how to feel about Esther as the series wrapped up. I kind of felt for her, but I definitely didn't like her. But after reading her story, I couldn't help but feel an immense amount of empathy for her, and her situation.
Honestly, I related to Esther more than I'd like to admit. So many of her feelings I have felt. And Lauren Nicolle Taylor paints those flaws so beautifully that even if you don't identify with a lot of Esther's thoughts, you can still feel her pain and her strife.
While catching glimpses from different moments in her life, it was so easy to see and understand why she had made the choices she had in The Woodlands series. But the novella doesn't try to make her a heroine, or even a martyr, just to tell her story. It does so, eloquently.
